Printronix’s Ties to Rivian

—Kevin Costelloe

This month’s $33 million sale of Printronix comes about nine years after the Irvine industrial printing company sold its former 186,000-square-foot headquarters on Myford Road to Irvine Co., a deal the Business Journal estimated at the time to be in the $35 million to $40 million range.

Printronix, which had shifted much of its manufacturing work to Mexico, moved its operations to a smaller facility in the Spectrum area of the city following the 2012 office sale.

Meggitt PLC used the Myford facility, just off Jamboree Road near the Santa Ana (5) Freeway, for several years for its sensing and monitoring systems operations.

The former Printronix site is now the headquarters of up-and-coming electric vehicle maker Rivian Automotive Inc.

Printronix is one of a cluster of printing-related businesses operating out of Orange County. Others include Toshiba, Konica Minolta, and Ricoh Electronics.

Konica has moved into a new headquarters facility in Los Alamitos, but others in the sector are shrinking their local real estate presence; Ricoh has sold some facilities it owns near the Costa Mesa (55) freeway, and has vacated other prominent buildings nearby, which are now up for lease.
