INDUSTRY: A look at OC’s cluster of EV firms

Irvine-based Rivian Automotive Inc. in September began rolling out its first consumer electric vehicle, the R1T truck, and has filed paperwork to go public at a reported $80 billion valuation.
Last week’s Business Journal profiled Super73, a Tustin-based maker of electric bikes moving to a new facility in Irvine to accommodate its growth. Karma Automotive, the luxury electric automaker, is located in Irvine.
Mazda North American, Kia Motors Inc. and Hyundai Motor America Inc., all with bases in Orange County, are also boosting their efforts in the electrification area.
Elsewhere on the EV battery front, Enevate Corp. is developing lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles, while EV Infrastructure LLC in Costa Mesa is building
EV charging stations.
