Kristy La - Tax Partner, Core Tax Services

Kristy is a tax partner in BDO’s core tax practice in Orange County. With over 18 years of experience providing tax services to a wide range of industries in the public and nonpublic sectors. Prior to joining BDO, Kristy worked with a Big Four firm and spent 14 years in the Financial Service and Private Company Service sectors serving client in a wide range of industries in retail, consumer products, technology, capital market, asset management, portfolio companies and leasing. She also spent over 3 years in industry serving as an AVP of Tax for one of the largest public aircraft leasing company, overseeing the global tax compliance and income tax reporting.

Kristy focused in all areas of US tax compliance for corporate and flow through entities. She has extensive knowledge in ASC 740 accounting for income taxes, purchase accounting, accounting methods, tax planning, acquisitions and restructuring.

Jam Yap - Assurance Director

Jam is an Assurance Director at BDO in their Costa Mesa office. She has significant experience serving distribution and manufacturing, restaurants and service companies, among others. Her clients include public and privately held companies, both local and multinational companies. Jam has a vast knowledge of GAAP and SEC reporting, including SOX compliance, and assists clients with various technical accounting and financial reporting matters. Jam also has experience in employee benefit plans including audits of defined contribution plans, defined benefit plans and 11-k audits.

Aretha Chen - Tax Managing Director

Aretha is a Tax Managing Director at BDO in their Costa Mesa office. With over twenty-four years of experience in public accounting serving manufacturing, distribution, technology, pharmaceutical, retail, medical device, automotive and health care companies. Aretha has a deep and thorough understanding of federal, state and international tax issues and assisted clients with complex tax issues including reorganizations, acquisitions, divestitures, mergers, federal and state audit assistance, state tax planning and international tax planning. Aretha has significant experience with ASC740 Accounting for Income Taxes. Assisted clients in documenting and adoption of ASC740-10 (FKA FIN48).
